ace-to-5Given the current surge in popularity of Texas Hold ‘Em, it is easy to forget that there are other variations of poker out there — and many of them are just as exciting, if not more so, than the standard favorite. Take Ace to Five Lowball, for instance. It takes skill, precision, and can make for a really nuts game.

Naturally, the best hand in this game is going to be any variation of the 5 4 3 2 A hand. Neither flushes nor straights will count against your hand. However, there are some very precise rules involved in this game.

First of all, if you use a joker, then it will then become the lowest card that is not present in the hand. Unless otherwise noted, it is assumed the joker is in use.

When playing a limit game, the check-raise is not allowed unless the people playing are told otherwise.

Also in a limit game, an exposed card that is seven or under has to be taken before the draw. After the deal is finished, an exposed card over seven has to be replaced. That will be the burn card.

In a limit game, it is assumed that the Seven Rule is in play. So, if a seven or better is checked and it proves to be the best hand, any action occurring after the draw is null and void.
